What does I/O mean?

In technology, I/O is short for input/output. Inputs are the signals or data received by the system and outputs are the signals or data sent from it.  A common example is someone using their keyboard or mouse as the input device, while monitors and printers are output devices. Many systems like websites and servers perform both input and output operations.
